Hurricane IKE Remediation Project Initiated

The offshore engineering group has begun work on a hurricane remediation project for a company that operates declining fields to maximize production before removal and abandonment work.  During Hurricane Ike the company lost a 4-pile production platform in the Gulf of Mexico.  The entire platform toppled to the ocean floor.  The downed platform was a production hub for the surrounding field, so the remediation project is a high priority.

Our team, with support from staff in Houston and Lafayette, is designing the necessary modifications to convert an alternate platform to the field's production platform.  The modifications consist of the addition of a production module, a utility module, and interconnecting deck piping necessary to process approximately 3,000 barrels of oil and 20 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.  Our work includes structural engineering, design of equipment and instrumentation, procurement of the designed materials, and management of fabrication and installation.

The engineering and design commenced in November, 2008 and procurement of the long lead production packages has been completed.  the fabrication of the production module is underway and is expected to be completed in July 2009.

The structural design of the utility module is nearly complete and the structural fabrication and mechanical outfitting of it are expected to commence by the end of March.

 Project Services are to include:

  • Structural and piping demolition
  • Engineering and design
  • Procurement
  • Management of fabrication
